The purpose of the study is to examine the history of hiring practices and the evaluation of coaches in the NFL while including personal narratives, professional history, and subjective evaluations. By utilizing a “mixed-method” approach, we’re able to establish a quantitative score for coaching candidates based on the use of our Coaching Performance Assessment System (CPAS) along with developing a qualitative sociological assessment score. The questions of the assessment are based on the experiences, reflections, and narratives of coaches and executives interviewed for this study and who have achieved championship-caliber success in the National Football League.
